A new fund has been created to help older people across Lichfield and Burntwood from becoming isolated.
The Silver Social scheme has been created across Staffordshire and will award between £1,000 and £3,000 to organisations.
The money is being awarded by the Community Foundation for Staffordshire, which has already helped the Whittington Computer Group that provides training to help older people use programmes such as Skype and Facetime to connect with family living abroad or elsewhere in the country.
Steve Adams, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation For Staffordshire, said: “Social clubs and luncheon clubs are the first activities that come to mind in cases like this, and they are a great way to create new friendships and support structures for older people.
“But there are other ways that older people are contributing to their wider community – by getting involved in volunteering, by taking a leading role in local community initiatives and by passing on often overlooked skills to a new generation. That’s why we’d like to encourage more people to get involved – making use of all their skills and experience.”
