A SCHEME offering grants of up to £10,000 for local environmental projects is open for applications.

South Staffs Water has launched the PEBBLE initiative and is hoping schools, charities, community groups, and conservation projects will apply for the support to help protect and enhance biodiversity across the region.

Since its launch, the fund has supported more than 125 projects and invested over £360,000 in Staffordshire and the West Midlands.

Projects could include tree planting, waterway restoration, wildflower meadow planting, pond enhancements and efforts to tackle invasive non-native species of plants.

Dan Clark, water resources and environment manager at South Staffs Water, said:

"As a water company, we recognise the important role we play in protecting and enhancing the natural environment. Through PEBBLE, we are proud to support local organisations that are delivering tangible biodiversity improvements and creating lasting benefits for both wildlife and communities.

"Over the years, we've seen some fantastic projects come to life through PEBBLE funding, from habitat restoration and river improvements to community-led conservation initiatives.

"We look forward to supporting even more inspiring projects through the 2026 programme."

The fund is open to organisations that own the land on which the project will take place or have permission from the landowner. The schemes must demonstrate a clear biodiversity benefit and align with the fund's objective of protecting, restoring or enhancing the natural environment.

Applications for funding will remain open until 1st March 2027.
