The Green Party’s candidate for Lichfield and Burntwood says his supporters are “angry at the corruption of our democracy”.

Robert Pass will be the party’s first parliamentary candidate in Lichfield since the constituency was formed.

But with Michael Fabricant occupying the seat since 1997 and winning with a majority of more than 17,000 last time out, Mr Pass’ task is seen by bookmakers as an impossible one.

However, Green Party activists claim their message is getting across in the area.

And Mr Pass believes their passion is being shared by voters.

“The reason we’re passionate is because we’re angry at the corruption of our democracy by the economic elite.

“The establishment parties are in the pockets of these elites which explains why they all sound the same.”

The candidates standing in the Lichfield constituency in May are:

  • Andy Bennetts – Class War
  • Michael Fabricant – Conservatives
  • Robert Pass – Green Party
  • John Rackham – UKIP
  • Paul Ray – Lib Dem
  • Chris Worsey – Labour
