HAMMERWICH suffered their first league defeat of the season as they were beaten in a top of the table clash at Milford Hall.
The result also saw the home side leapfrog Callum Brodrick’s men at the summit of the South Staffordshire County League Premier Division.
The Hammers opted to bat first after winning the toss, but struggled early on with the bat as Tom Wright, Ben Novis, Scott Elstone and Brodrick were all removed with only 22 runs scored.
But Imran Qadir and Andy Malkin steadied the ship with knocks of 63 and 58.
Thomas Spears (17) and Sajid Ahmadzai (13 not out) also hung around to help Hammerwich reach 190-9 in their 50 overs.
Milford Hall’s innings was a much more measured response as the runs came steadily and were shared throughout the side.
Ahmadzai and John Jennings both took three wickets as they forced the hosts to dig deep, but they were unable to prevent the target being reached with a wicket to spare.
