HAMMERWICH Cricket Club got their season off to a winning start as they beat Beacon by 25 runs.
They were sent into bat first after the visitors had won the toss, but saw Craig Jennings return to the pavilion when he was caught after scoring just seven.
Fellow opener Imran Qadir followed with the scoree on 36, but Callum Brodrick’s 44 and an unbeaten 36 and 37 from George Scrimshaw and Andy Malkin helped the Hammers reach 196-6.
A revised target of 206 from 41 overs faced Beacon – and they made the worst possible start when Gurjot Singh was trapped lbw by Haider Pervaiz with the fourth ball of the innings.
The visitors struggled to get their innings going as wickets fell at regular intervals to leave them on 78-5.
Max Lee offered some resistance, scoring 39 before John Jennings removed him with the scoreboard reading 164-9.
The innings was eventually ended when George Scrimshaw caught Stephen Blews off the bowling of Jennings, who finished with figures of 2-18, while Hasnain Nawaz took 3-57.
