HAMMERWICH maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a low-scoring home victory against Beacon.
The hosts opted to bat first after winning the toss, but found runs hard to come by.
The first wicket fell when Tom Wright was caught off the bowling of Matthew Cartwright with the score on 23.
Ben Novis and Imran Qadir quickly followed as Hammerwich slipped to 26-3.
Craig Jennings and captain Callum Brodrick were next to go as the scoreboard moved to 59-5.
Partnerships were proving difficult to come by, with John Jennings becoming the sixth wicket to fall with the score on 84 – and only three more were added when top scorer Andy Malkin was bowled by Jake Cartwright after making 31.
Hammerwich eventually hauled their total to 115 when the final wicket of the innings fell.
Beacon were set a revised target of 116 from 60 overs and made good progress as they reached 50-3.
But when four wickets fell with just seven more runs added to the total, the advantage had swung in favour of the home side.
With the score on 57-7, Josh Thomas tried to lead the Beacon fightback, scoring an unbeaten 40 before he ran out of partners with with the visitors only able to make 104.
Hasnain Nawaz was the star of the show with the ball for Hammerwich, finishing with figures of 6-46.
