HAMMERWICH suffered disappointment as they fell to defeat at home to Wombourne.
After losing their first game of the season at Milford Hall last time out, the hosts had hoped to get back on track immediately.
But after being sent into the field first they saw some stubborn batting from Wombourne as the visitors amassed 192-9 in their 50 overs.
George Scrimshaw was the pick of the Hammerwich bowlers with figures of 5-46.
The home side’s reply got off to a shaky start with Ben Novis falling to a first ball duck and his replacement Callum Brodrick faring little better as he went without scoring after facing just two balls.
With the score only reaching 35-4, Hammerwich found some resistance before Imran Qadir was dismissed to make it 79-6.
It had looked like the hosts would face an early end to their innings, but the middle order dug in with a fine half-century from Craig Jennings and a handy 29 from Andy Malkin.
But it wasn’t enough as Oliver Siviter took four wickets and Charlie Walker bagged five as Wombourne skittled Hammerwich out for 158.
