MORE than 500 people have helped Light the Night to help raise funds for St Giles Hospice.
Families, friends, charity staff and supporters donned their purple t-shirts and illuminated the evening as they walked an 8km route from Lichfield Sports Club, through Beacon Park – which featured an illuminated light tunnel – past Lichfield Cathedral and through the city’s streets.
A live band, a warm up, musicians and volunteers cheered on the hundreds of participants along the route.
Organisers said the turnout exceeded expectations, hailing the event as a "memorable evening".

Sam Colclough, senior events officer at St Giles Hospice, said:
"We were absolutely overwhelmed by the support for our very first Light the Night event.
"Seeing more than 500 people come together to celebrate, remember and support hospice care was truly inspiring.
"We’d like to thank everyone who took part, volunteered or helped make the evening such a success.”
St Giles Hospice has confirmed that tickets for next year’s Light the Night are now available for an early bird rate of £10, giving supporters the chance to secure their place early.
