Lichfield and Burntwood is a perfect example of increasing inequality across Britain, according to Labour councillor Sue Woodward.
And she believes that is why her party is the only one who can be trusted to deliver social justice – and the reason why voters should back local parliamentary hopeful Chris Worsey.
She also expressed her pride that her party holds regular advice surgeries and publishes regular newsletters to address residents’ concerns.
Sue, who will be standing again for the Chase Terrace ward in the local elections, said: “The values of social justice and equality were impressed upon me from a young age. I then became interested in politics and found out that Labour is the party who represents my views.
“I believe in a society where resources are shared, but in Lichfield and Burntwood there are many deprivation factors, and the have and have not’s exist in force here.
“As a party we are out talking to people not just at election time – we hold regular advice surgeries and we publish regular newsletters, despite us having a small presence on Lichfield District Council compared to the Tories, but we do our best.
“I feel we’ve run a good campaign – we’ve knocked on lots of doors and sent lots of emails – I believe people have been pleased to see us. For example I’ve met a 16-year-old who recently joined Labour, and a 14-year-old who has become interested in our party.”
On May 7 people in Lichfield and Burntwood will have a choice between a Conservative or Labour government, says Cllr Woodward.
The Labour candidate explained why she disagrees with the politics of both UKIP and Class War.
She insists that politics has a massive impact on the day-to-day lives of ordinary men and women.
Cllr Woodward said: “Most politicians get into politics to make a difference and to improve people’s lives – on a day-to-day basis as politicians we deal with issues that affect everyone.
“On May 7 Lichfield and Burntwood voters will have a clear choice to make as to whether they want a Conservative or Labour government.
“I don’t agree with UKIP’s anti-politics message, where they say they’re not politicians – once UKIP are elected they become politicians.
“I agree with a lot of what Class War’s Andy Bennetts is saying except on his central point that people shouldn’t vote – if you don’t vote then you are weakening the collective voice of your area.”
