JUDE Taylor scored twice as Lichfield City picked up a 3-1 win on the road at Romulus.
Jack Edwards had opened the scoring midway through the first half to put Ivor Green’s table-toppers in front.
Taylor netted his second with seven minutes to go before Chris Uwabor’s late strike halved the deficit.
But the result was wrapped up in stoppage time as Taylor bagged his second of the game.
City began brightly with Jamie Spiers heading wide and Callum Griffin’s curling strike dropping just over the bar.
At the other end, James Beeson had to be alert to make a low save to keep out a Romulus free kick.
The breakthrough eventually came on 25 minutes when a series of blocked shots eventually resulted in Edwards stabbing the ball home.
Lichfield’s rhythm was disrupted before the break though as James Wilcock and Leighton McMenemy were both forced off through injury.
Romulus went close at the start of the second half with a dipping effort just over the bar before Beeson had to save well to prevent a leveller.
Edwards hit the bar as Lichfield grew into the second period before sub Taylor’s arrival forced a good save from Lewis Gwilliams.
The City forward made no mistake with his next chance though as a quick break saw him slide the ball home to make it 2-0.
Sonny Sheasby went close to adding a third but was denied by Gwilliams.
A scramble in the box saw Romulus pull one back through Uwabor with a minute left on the clock.
But the hosts’ chances of a dramatic comeback were ended when Taylor was on hand to find the net after a late free kick to wrap up the victory.
