Labour may have lost seats but they haven’t lost their fight at Lichfield District Council, according to one of their successful candidates.
The party were left picking up the pieces after seeing just four councillors elected across Lichfield and Burntwood.
Sue Woodward, Eric Drinkwater, Sharon Banevicius in Chasetown and Di Evans in Boney Hay and Central were the only success stories for Labour.
But Cllr Woodward said they will continue to make their voices heard.
“We will still be there as a force of opposition to mitigate against the worst effects of Tory cuts,” she insisted. “I’m delighted personally, but feel very sorry for colleagues who have lost votes.”
The local election results came on top of disappointing results nationally in the parliamentary elections.
And Cllr Woodward admitted things hadn’t gone well.
“They were very, very disappointing results,” she said. “It’s been a tough 48 hours for Labour.
“We’ve knocked hundreds if not thousands of doors, but it’s very difficult to get the message across that there might be new candidates to vote for.
“I want to see genuine people who are willing to represent their community and do the work that involves. Eric Drinkwater and myself in Chase Terrace will do just that.”
