Lollipop men and women from across Lichfield and Burntwood have joined a celebration of the service.
A special tea party marked 60 years of helping children to cross roads across Staffordshire.
The first official patrol started work in 1953 and while the uniform and sign have changed to meet modern standards, the role is essentially the same today as it was when it began.
Staffordshire currently has 323 patrol officers working across the county, with the youngest being 23 with the average age around 59.
County Councillor Simon Tagg said: “Our School Crossing Patrol officers all provide an invaluable service keeping our children safe and this celebration was our opportunity to thank them for their hard work.
“Amongst our army of lollipop people we have husband and wife teams, twin sisters, mothers and daughters, fathers and sons and generations of families who have handed down the trade.”
