Long-standing Lichfield and Burntwood MP Michael Fabricant has said he is “extremely proud” to be re-selected as the Conservative candidate for the forthcoming General Election.
Mr Fabricant will once again contest a seat he has held since 1997.
The last vote, in 2017, saw him secure a majority of more than 18,500.
“I am extremely proud to be reselected as a candidate in the forthcoming General Election to represent Lichfield and Burntwood and the surrounding villages in the House of Commons,” he said.
“I have campaigned for fair funding for Staffordshire schools and this is now finally happening and I will continue to oppose HS2 by voting against it in Parliament.
“But with 59% of the Lichfield constituency having voted for Brexit, as did the nation, it must now be delivered without any further delay from a remainer parliament.
“We have a great Brexit Deal agreed and it must now be enacted.”
“Paralysis of Parliament has to end”
Voters will return to the polls on 12th December for a third General Election in four years.
Mr Fabricant said the new vote was necessary.
“I regret that we have had to have another General Election,” he explained. “But the paralysis arising from no political party commanding a majority in Parliament has to end.
“That is why I hope there will be a decisive election outcome nationally.
“As for me, I hope that people will judge me on my record. I help around 500 individual constituents each month either directly or by letter and email, I attend numerous local events, and I publicise the Lichfield constituency nationally.
“It’s a wonderful place to represent in Parliament. I hope the electorate will continue to allow me to do so.”
Before becoming an MP, Mr Fabricant taught in a high school, worked as a broadcaster, and then later established a company working in broadcast engineering.
“I believe that my wide experience in the UK and overseas before I became an MP gives me the knowledge and management experience to be an effective MP,” he said.
“My friendship with Government ministers and MPs of all political parties, has helped me cut through red tape and get results.”
