The event, a Chariots of Fire-inspired race to beat the 12noon chimes, will take place on August 20.

Kevin Wilson, who founded the Dash in 1998, says he is delighted to be able to bring it back.

“It was last held when the Olympic torch came to Lichfield in 2012, but in a year of the Rio Games we felt it right to bring it back.

“We’re delighted to be returning to Lichfield Cathedral.”

The support of new sponsors St Johns House has helped make the return happen.

Owner Dan Ralley said: “I’m so excited to be associated with bringing such an exciting and unique sporting event back to my home city where I now live and work.”

The event will start from 10am with junior, cycling and wheelchair races taking place before the main dash at noon.
