The works of Britten will be celebrated at a special performance in Lichfield Cathedral.

The Darwin Ensemble Chamber Orchestra will be joined by the Cathedral’s Chamber Choir on November 23.

The performance will be part of the venue’s Festival of Britten, marking the centenary of the composer’s birth.

There will also be appearances by speakers, acclaimed Canadian tenor Daniel Auchincloss, soprano Natalie Clifton-Griffith and the boy choristers of Lichfield Cathedral.

On the programme is Britten’s cantata St Nicolas, which tells the story of the original Santa Claus, as well as a rare chance to hear an early work composed for BBC Radio, The Company of Heaven – a mix of sung, spoken prose and poetry.

Tickets are available from 01543 412121.
