LICHFIELD City survived a late scare to go through in the league cup.
Ivor Green’s men had gone 2-0 up at Saffron Dynamo thanks to goals from Sonny Sheasby and James Wilcock.
A late strike from Jamie Hoyland reduced the arrears, but City were able to hold on to book their place in the next round.
The opener for Lichfield came early in the game when Jack Edwards and Josh Mansell combined for Sheasby to slide the ball past home keeper Louis Harris.
The hosts went close to levelling before the break when a shot hit the post before going out for a corner off James Beeson.
Saffron had an early chance in the second half too with a strike that went just over the bar.
Jude Taylor and Edwards were both off target at the other end as City tried to double their advantage.
They eventually got the crucial second goal after Taylor was felled in the box and Wilcock sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.
The game was almost dead and buried when an audacious long range effort from Edwards forced Harris to scuttle back towards his goal to turn the ball away from danger.
Hoyland reduced the deficit when he tucked home the rebound after a header had come back off the post with five minutes left.
Lichfield had the ball in the net again before the final whistle, but Mansell’s effort was ruled out for offside.
