Lichfield City FC hammered at home by Hinckley

Lichfield City FC suffered a bad day at the office as their title hopes were dented by Hinckley.

It took just a minute for the visitors to open their account as Ryan Seal netted from eight yards.

Hinckley’s lively opening seemed to catch City napping and they were fortunate not to fall further behind as a number of chances came and went in the opening exchanges.

Lichfield eventually fashioned an opportunity of their own when Joshua Haston tried to make the most of a defensive error but saw his shot saved.

But it was only the briefest of respites from the Hinckley onslaught and the visitors doubled their advantage when former Chasetown striker Paul Sullivan’s deflected effort found the net.

If Lichfield were hoping for better fortunes in the second period they were to be disappointed. It took until the 57th minute for the score to reach 3-0 as Lee Thomas netted.

City did enjoy some attacking moments, with Liam Holt seeing a long-range effort saved and Pawel Smigielski sending the ball over the top of the Hinckley bar.

But again the visitors showed their ruthless streak as Seal doubled his advantage and made it 4-0.
