Lichfield City FC’s JW Hunt Cup run has been ended by Sporting Khalsa.
Dave Langston’s men fell to a 3-0 defeat in the quarter-final clash.
Khalsa saw an early penalty shout waved away before Lichfield had their first openings when Jordan Hunt and Luke Chapman tested the keeper.
Both sides traded half-chances in the game until Richard Deavall was penalised for a foul in the box, but City keeper James Lawson came to the rescue with a fine save from the resulting penalty.
But it turned out to be little more than a temporary stay of execution as Khalsa took the lead thanks to a powerful header.
Lichfield were left shell-shocked as the advantage was doubled when an effort from distance went in off the post.
An uneventful second half saw Lichfield struggle to find a way back into the game until the latter stages when the Khalsa keeper was forced into a fine save to prevent an own goal from sneaking in.
As City pushed to grab a foothold in the encounter, they were always likely to be vulnerable at the other end and so it proved as the defeat was wrapped up when the offside trap was sprung and Lawson was beaten, despite making a good save from the initial shot.
