Lichfield City FC’s Jekyll and Hyde season continued with a woeful display at Nuneaton Griff.
The visitors were forced to make four changes from the previous week’s Staffs Cup win due to suspensions and injuries and were put to the sword by a free-flowing home side.
Things may have been different had Lichfield converted one of the early chances they carved out, the best of which came with just two minutes on the clock when Leon Morgan found himself one-on-one with home keeper Dave Watson who spread himself to palm out the shot.
The visitors were punished for the miss as a similar situation at the other end resulted in Josh Ruff neatly finishing past Craig Johnson to open the scoring.
City had the majority of possession in the opening period but failed to create any further opportunity of note and were further behind on the half-hour mark, a superbly worked goal was put away by Alex Naughton to double the lead going into the break.
The second half was one way traffic as Nuneaton took advantage of a meek Lichfield side and Naughton doubled his tally ten minutes after the restart with a simple finish.
The second half failed to improve as the visitors failed to muster a shot on target and had keeper Johnson to thank for preventing an even larger scoreline.
But the City stopper could do nothing to prevent Griff wrapping up a 4-0 win as Steve Barrett’s late strike capped a miserable afternoon for Lichfield.
