Lichfield City FC suffered a disappointing defeat as they went down 2-0 to Atherstone.

In wet conditions, the visitors showed their intent early on with a chance going over the bar.

City tried to show their own attacking intent when Kyle Patterson fired wide, before sending a volley over the top.

But it was Atherstone who broke the deadlock when a cross was headed home by Joe Obi.

Joseph Fryatt was forced into a good save to prevent Lichfield falling further behind, before Dan Thurstance did his best to reduce the deficit but saw his strike go wide of the upright.

Atherstone almost found a second with a clever chip that dropped just wide of the target before the break.

Lichfield struggled to carve out many clear-cut chances in the second period but thought they’d finally found the leveller when James Taylor’s effort was goal bound, only for the ball to be cleared off the line.

And Atherstone made the most of their fortune with Ryan Quinn netting to wrap up the three points.
