Lichfield City FC suffered their second defeat in a row as they lost 2-1 at Studley.
Jamie Hawkins’ men had the better of the early exchanges in blustery conditions, but saw Drew Aiton’s free-kick go wide before Max Black nodded over from six yards out.
But Studley quickly found themselves two goals up as Lichfield rued not making the most of their opportunities.
City were indebted to keeper Jonathan Brown for preventing the game from running away from them as he made a number of saves before the break – and the keeper almost turned unlikely goalscorer in the second half as his kick caught the wind and forced his opposite number to save under the bar.
Lichfield did get a lifeline in the game when they were awarded a penalty for handball and Aiton converted from the spot.
And they thought a dramatic leveller had arrived late on, but a linesman’s flag for offside meant defeat for Hawkins’ men – a result which sees them stay top with a two point advantage over Heather St Johns and Racing Club Warwick, who both have three games in hand.
