Lichfield Diamonds Girls U15 3 Solihull Borough Girls 0: For their opening fixture in the competitive Central Warwickshire Girls League Diamonds had a tricky game against an always useful Solihull Borough and for the opening ten minutes the City girls were on the back foot.
Having played only nine-a-side previously Diamonds took some time to get used to having the space of a bigger pitch. Gradually things started to click and Alison Livermore’s strong run and low shot gave them the lead, this was soon doubled when a quickly taken free kick by Danni Jones set up Livermore to curl a left foot shot into the far corner.
Diamonds were now well on top, Charlotte Batey hit a scorching volley from the edge of the box just over and Shannon Bernes Jones was a constant threat.
Early in the second half Livermore made the points safe with a sharp turn and shot to complete her hat-trick.
With the game won Diamonds went into overplay mode, with too much passing around the box rather than getting shots away.
But it was a good start at 11-a-side, defence looked solid throughout, Rose Williams slotted into central defence well on her debut and a welcome return to Diamonds for Alana Edwards has the footballing brains and ability to make a quality central midfield player.

St Georges U13 Girls 0 Lichfield Diamonds Girls U13 6: The girls are realising that the best footballing side are not necessarily going to win their matches without adding a bit of steel to their game.
St Georges cannot compete when Diamonds are allowed to play a passing game but they know how to mix it physically and the U’13’s found it hard going at times, but as always they are clinical in front of goal and went in at half time a deserved 3-0 up via Hart, Twine and Meehan.
Three more goals were added in the 2nd half, another one from Meehan, Hodges finishing an excellent move starting with herself via Twine.
t was then wrapped up by Walker who lobbed the keeper from behind the half way line (a definite contender for goal of the season) which she assured everyone she did mean to score!
P.O.M Hodges for her debut.
