A night of fun is on offer to help raise funds for Oxfam.
Volunteers will be hosting live music, a disco, raffle and buffet meal on December 6 as part of a drive to raise £1,000 for the charity’s Unwrapped initiative, which aims to help with areas such as establishing safe water supplies in schools across the world.
“We can only do this with help from our own community,” said Oxfam shop manager Brenda Freeman. “So we’re asking all the friends who do so much for us throughout the year to support us once again by buying a ticket for just £6 – the cost of a health check in poor communities, where health care may be unaffordable, inaccessible or just unavailable.
“We understand that in the present economic climate many people are struggling to make ends meet, and that at this time of year they face all kinds of financial demands, but Oxfam is working in parts of the world where people are struggling to survive, and your gift could be the difference between life and death.”
The event takes place at Lichfield Social Club, on Purcell Avenue, and tickets are available from the main Oxfam shop at 16 Market Street, and the Book Shop – which is just a few doors away – at 32 Market Street.
