Labour’s Chris Worsey stands head and shoulders above all of the other Lichfield and Burntwood parliamentary candidates, claims branch chairman Colin Ball.
Mr Ball, 64, revealed how Mr Worsey convinced Labour Party members to select him to fight the general election at a private hustings event.
And the chairman believes the businessman and Sandwell Councillor can become Labour’s first MP in Lichfield since Sylvia Heal won a by-election back in 1990.
He said: “I believe Labour are going to do well on May 7. I hope Chris does well because he is a hard-working guy, who believes in Labour values.
“We held a hustings event for Labour members only when we were selecting our parliamentary candidate and Chris as he does now stood head and shoulders above the rest.”
Mr Ball explained how he’s fighting for a more equal society across Britain.
He first became involved with Labour during the 1964 general election campaign.
And he believes his party is winning the ground war in Lichfield and Burntwood.
Mr Ball said: “I believe in social justice and helping ordinary men and women and not demonising them as some do. As a human being I believe that no-one should be in fuel poverty or using a food bank.
“I’ve been involved with Labour since I was 14 or 15. I couldn’t join the party at the time, but I was out campaigning to get Harold Wilson elected in 1964.
“Chris, the team and I have been out knocking doors in teams of 12 and there is a lot of people telling us they’re going to vote for Labour. In my opinion we’ll take votes off the Tories in city, district and parish elections on May 7.
“Our target as a party is to have four million conversations before May 7 – by talking to lots of people we’re able to listen to their concerns, and show them how Labour has the answers.”
Mr Ball has set out what he believes are the main difference between his party and the Conservatives.
He says the Labour Party will ban zero hours contracts, abolish the bedroom tax, freeze energy bills and increase the minimum wage to £8 per hour.
Mr Ball added: “The Tories are only interested in the rich – they have given tax cuts to the wealthiest, while slashing welfare and wages for men and women. In my opinion there is plenty of money to go around.”
