Lichfield’s MP has called on the city to broadcast itself to the world.
Michael Fabricant has admitted he was shocked to discover that Lichfield has no webcam showing pictures of the city around the world.
And he believes that the lack of such technology means Lichfield is missing out.
Mr Fabricant explained:
“Lichfield needs a webcam to promote itself to the world. We did have one in Market Street provided by a private company some years back, but when it moved, the webcam did too. It is extraordinary that I can see street scenes and weather conditions for most towns in the developed world, but Lichfield which prides itself as a tourist destination does not seem to have a webcam view – or if it does, it is not well advertised on the internet and I couldn’t find it.
“I invite private companies or the City or District Councils which have excellent websites of their own to install a camera in Bore Street or Market Street – or perhaps they can use the feed from an existing CCTV camera – to show Lichfield’s bustling street scenes.
“It’s easy to take our City for granted, but an attractive view of daily Lichfield life in all weathers will help stimulate our tourist market in a time of economic recession”.
