Lichfield museum talk to shine spotlight on Roman Britain

Rik Sowden to give lecture at the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum.

A TALK at a Lichfield museum is set to lift the lid on life in Roman Britain.

Rik Sowden will visit the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum for the event on 5th August.

A spokesperson said:

"To the Romans, the people of Britannia were wild, uncivilised and strange.

"The land itself was unfamiliar and challenging, surrounded by terrifying seas and with inhospitable weather – so distant from the civilising effect of Rome that it might as well have been as distant and alien as the moon.

"In this lecture, Rik will examine events of Rome and Britain in the first centuries BCE and CE, the invasions of Julius Caesar and Claudius, and the Boudican revolt which followed."

Tickets are £12 and can be booked online.
