LICHFIELD has celebrated the 317th birthday of one of the city's most famous sons.
A programme of commemorative events was organised by the Lichfield Johnson Society in memory of Dr Samuel Johnson.
The annual celebration honoured the life and legacy of the writer, lexicographer and creator of the dictionary.
Cllr Rosie Harvey-Coggins, Mayor of Lichfield, said:
"It was wonderful to welcome the new President of the Lichfield Johnson Society, Lars Tharp, as we came together to celebrate Dr Johnson’s 317th birthday.
"These annual celebrations are a fantastic reminder of the important place Dr Johnson holds in our city’s history and of the pride we continue to take in his remarkable achievements."
