A LICHFIELD school has been praised for its work on supporting the personal development of pupils.

Willows Primary Academy was rated as strong standard in three areas and expected standard in four others by Ofsted inspectors.

A report following their visit in February, said values such as “resilience, kindness and responsibility” were central to the school’s success.

The inspectors said:

“Personal development is a strength of the school. Pupils learn to reflect on their beliefs and experiences and think about how their actions affect others. They discuss right and wrong and explore real‑life issues in a safe and respectful way.

“Teachers encourage pupils to ask questions, listen carefully and consider different viewpoints. This builds empathy and helps pupils understand fairness and respect.

“Pupils work together often, which supports their social skills well and helps them manage disagreements calmly.”

The senior team at the school was also praised for efforts to create a wide range of opportunities for children.

The inspectors added:

“Leaders demonstrate a detailed and accurate understanding of the school. They have a clear view of its strengths and identify sharply the priorities for further development. Changes and improvements are being driven at pace.

“Pupils are placed at the centre of their work, including disadvantaged pupils, those with special educational needs and disabilities and pupils who face wider challenges to their learning or wellbeing.

“Leaders ensure that all pupils can access the curriculum and take part in wider opportunities.”

The full report can be viewed on the Ofsted website.
