Lichfield cyclist Toby Barnes got off to a winning start in the first race of the West Midlands Cyclo Cross League.
Riding for the RST/Cycle Division Racing Team, the city racer led from the front in Shrewsbury as he looks to repeat his feat of winning the first four stages of last season.
Under-23 rider Barnes set a blistering pace away from the start line of the senior race and had built up 19 seconds of his eventual 25 second lead after the opening lap.
He was chased throughout by mountain bike specialist Ben Wadey who had to settle for second.
