A LICHFIELD teacher who has gone above and beyond for his school has been shortlisted for a national award.
James Chapman, acting head at Scotch Orchard Primary School, was nominated for Collection Pot’s Teacher of the Year competition by pupil Paige Christie-Joy and her mother Robyn Christie.
They said his work to foster a love of reading through a revamp of the school’s library and the incorporation of a reading corner in every classroom had been among the reasons they had put him forward for the honour.
Robyn said:
“It was just gorgeous – It just shows how invested he is in the school.” Robyn said.
“He ran a competition amongst the teachers to see who could design the best reading corner. They were so excited they couldn’t keep it from the children.
“Mr Chapman wanted to motivate children to read. If they read three times in a week, they are entered into a raffle to win a chance to have afternoon tea with him on a Friday.”
Robyn also praised the acting head for ensuring he listens to the views of parents and supports those with additional learning needs.
She said:
“The enthusiasm he has brought has completely changed how parents communicate with the school. Everyone is happier.”
The winner of Collection Pot’s Teacher of the Year competition will be announced on 4th July.
