The successful summer of tennis wasn’t over in Lichfield as members of the Friary Lawn Tennis Club battled it out in their summer championships finals.
The three-week long tournament saw players from under 8s through to the senior open tournament battling it out for 14 prizes.
Julian Fisher was in fine form as he completed the treble for the second year in succession, winning the gentlemen’s singles, gentlemen’s doubles – with Neil Eggington – and mixed doubles alongside Jane Hamlin, who also took the treble in the women’s competition.
But 2013 was even more impressive for the Fisher family as Julian’s son Sebastian won the under 8 junior boys singles title in his first ever tournament appearance.
There was plenty of young talent on show with 13-year-old Hussain Palejwala collecting the under 14 and under 17 boys singles championships.
Both were long three-set matches and he dug deep, especially in the older age group final against a more experienced player to win in the third set.
Achim Kreuser, Club Chairman said: “The sun shone and the tennis was of an excellent standard. But what was special for me was to see all six courts full of players from six years through to 60 playing on finals day.
“Juniors played next to seniors and the crowd were privileged to see 14 matches on a fun-packed day of sport.”

- Mens Doubles – Julian Fisher & Neil Eggington beat David Cooper & David Spencer 6-4, 6-2
- Ladies Singles – Jane Hamlin beat Helen Griffiths 6-3, 6-2
- Mens Singles – Julian Fisher beat Martin Hume 6-0, 6-0
