LICHFIELD Women’s 2nds went to Coalville for their round 16 league game hot on the heels of their first meeting only two weeks ago.
The visitors were able to introduce a number of the under-18 squad to adult rugby – and they did very well to win 12-5 with a late try by the dependable Clara Such proving decisive.
Earlier, Louisa Maynard had opened the scoring – extras added by Issie Davies – to help keep the Green team third with two games to go, starting with a home fixture against Old Leamingtonians this weekend.
Elsewhere, the men’s 2nds played Uttoxeter in their last home league game and produced a good performance in a competitive match full of constructive rugby.
Lichfield bossed the first half-hour and ran the visitors around purposefully to lead 14-0.
Uttoxeter suddenly changed the momentum of the game and reached the break only four points down and really should have been in the lead.
But the home side soon managed to change the match’s impetus again and they extended their lead to 36-10 before Uttoxeter scored a deserved late try for their contribution to an enjoyable afternoon.
Lichfield’s tries came David Mott (2), Lucas Laing (2), Harry McDonough and Tom Day with half of them converted by Josh Butler.
