Tennis and squash players have been doing battle in Lichfield.
The city’s inaugral Racketlon Championship saw players from both sports cross the divide to compete against each other.
Lichfield Squash Club eventually got the better of Lichfield Friary Tennis Club in a close encounter – and the event as proved so successful that both clubs are now planning to make it an annual event.
James Roberts, chairman of Lichfield Squash Club, said: “It was great to win but even better to take part in a sport I hadn’t played for years and despite
the aches and pains and a couple of heavy tennis defeats, I am looking forward next year already.
“I will certainly be getting lots of tennis practice in between now and then though!”
As well as the team contest, there was also an individual title on offer for the person amassing the most individual points. Roger Eddowes, from the squash club, took the title.
Gill McDonald, from Lichfield Friary Tennis Club, added “The event was a good showcase for both clubs and we’ll be back next year to hopefully win the trophy back.”
