LOCAL residents are being urged to sign up for the world’s largest garden wildlife survey.
The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch takes place over the last weekend in January.
Nearly 600,000 people took part last year, counting more than nine million garden birds.
Around 11,200 residents in Staffordshire signed up, with the House Sparrow being the most spotted bird in 2025, followed by the Blue Tit and Woodpigeon.
This year’s event takes place from 23rd to 25th January and sees people asked to spend an hour counting feathered friends in their garden, allotment, balcony or local park.
Beccy Speight, the RSPB’s chief executive, said:
“By taking part in the Big Garden Birdwatch, you and hundreds of thousands of other nature lovers across the UK, are helping us understand how garden birds are doing.
“Birds and wildlife are struggling right now. Every observation counts, even if you see nothing at all.”
