Lichfield City FC enjoyed their own Bank Holiday screening of the magnificent seven as they hammered Stafford Town.
Gary Birch’s men were in ruthless form as they made the short trip to their Staffordshire rivals in the Midland Football League Division One.
Kyle Minto was in the starting line-up and the striker nearly got his side off to the perfect start, but was denied after an early one-on-one.
But if Lichfield have been guilty of spurning chances in their games so far this season, Tom Evans gave a taste of what was to come after four minutes when he opened the scoring.
Minto then had a goal chalked off for offside as City piled on the early pressure.
It was an own goal that eventually put the visitors 2-0 up before Evans went close to doubling his own tally just before the break.
He didn’t have to wait long after the interval to net his second and give Lichfield a three-goal cushion.
Adam Wood headed wide and Evans was denied a hat-trick by a good save as City kept up the pressure on a beleagured Stafford backline.
Goal number four eventually came when Tony Clarke got in on the scoring act – and he added another as the game entered the final 15 minutes.
Evans was rewarded with his hat-trick as any Stafford resistance crumbled.
The scoring wasn’t complete as sub Joe Haines rounded off a dominant 7-0 win for Lichfield – and there was still time for Joe Parke to fire against the post in the dying moments.
