SHAZAD Malik struck 99 and Fazanullah Niazai picked up eight wickets as Whittington secured a dominant home victory over Penkridge 2nds.

After being sent in to bat first, the hosts piled on the runs early on before the quick wickets of Ethan Kelly and Martin Weston within an over gave Penkridge hope with the score on 166-5.

But Malik continued to dominate with the bat as the score had reached 229 before he eventually became the eighth wicket to fall just one short of his century.

Whittington eventually made 240-9 from their 50 overs leaving the visitors with a mountain to climb – but it was never one they looked like conquering as they found themselves peering down the barrel of heavy loss on 36-5.

Paul Szewczyk proved to be the sole source of resistance as he made 46 to become the only Penkridge player to reach double figures in the fixture.

But when he eventually fell with the score on 87 the innings was over and Whittington collected a 153-run victory.

Niazai took the plaudits with the ball for the home side as he finished with impressive figures of 8-29.
