Lichfield City FC’s league campaign got off to a losing start when they were beaten 1-0 at Bromsgrove Sporting.
Hopes had been high among the City ranks after a strong pre-season and an emphatic cup win against Polesworth at the weekend.
But despite a promising start to the first half, Lichfield fell behind when Odane Barnes netted for the hosts on 23 minutes.
Barnes was the tormenter once more during the second period, but the City defence held up well.
However, the Lichfield attack failed to break down the home backline and must now look to pick up their first points of the Midland Combination season when they entertain Glades Sporting on Saturday (August 13).
Kick-off at Brownsfield Park is at 3pm.
