Lichfield City FC secured three points from their first home game of the season as they look to build the foundations for a second successive promotion.
The game opened as a tight affair, with both teams struggling to gain a foothold, but City gradually began to improve and gain territory and possession without creating any clear-cut chances.
Against the run of play Sporting Glades scored with a great Lawrence O’Neil strike from the edge of the area which was just beyond the reach of the keeper.
Lichfield upped the pressure as they looked to bounce back but they were forced to go into the break a goal behind.
The interval gave manager Russell Dodds the chance to change things around as he brought on Will Evans at right back and switched Lewis Bourne in to the centre of midfield. This changged the game and instantly gave Lichfield the edge in the second period.
Goals from Liam Holt, Ash Bennett and a Dan Mason penalty gave City the edge, with Mark Rose the pick of the second half strikes as he nodded home a pefect cross from Sean Williams after a fine Lichfield passing move.
The City side will look to make it maximum points once more when they host Stretton Eagles this evening (August 16) at Brownsfield Park.
Their Burton-based opponents have had a mixed start to the season, drubbing Blackwood 5-1 on the opening day, before going down 4-2 at Littleton on Saturday.
