What a difference two days made for Lichfield City FC as they shrugged off their shock defeat to lowly Northfield Town with a win against high-flying Shirley Town.
With six wins and one draw so far, the hosts looked to be a daunting task for Russell Dodd’s men, but City could easily have won by a greater margin.
Shirley started well and it was obvious that they are a very good passing team who keep the ball well. Lichfield were taking a more dynamic route with Liam Holt and Sean Williams working hard up front. Olly Budd was making his first full appearance for the firsts after shining for the reserves and it was his good work which lead to City’s winning goal.
Budd ran on to a good ball out on the right and then whipped a left-footed ball into the near post where Liam Holt was waiting to volley home an unstoppable shot into the net from six yards.
Shirley had more of the game in the second half but Lichfield had the better chances with James Lawson and Holt both going clean through only for the keeper to make great saves.
A great win for Lichfiled and they look forward to hosting Fairfield Villa at Brownsfield Road on Saturday (September 3).
