AN MP has asked for action to help an education trust manage its debt in a bid to save teaching jobs.
The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership saw strike action earlier this year over plans for redundancies.
But while an agreement was later reached to halt the walkouts, Lichfield MP Dave Robertson said the challenges facing the trust had not gone away.
Speaking in a House of Commons debate he said:
“The trust found itself in significant financial distress earlier this year, leading to nine days of strike action across a number of schools.
“The new leadership at the trust is working very hard to rectify that – and strikes are now paused.
“But the major blockage they have now is servicing the debt accrued under the previous leadership.
“Can the leader of the House secure a meeting for me and other affected members to discuss with the Department of Education what we can do about how that debt is restructured with the aim of saving potentially up to 23 teaching jobs.”
The Labour MP received reassurances that a meeting with the relevant Minister would be arranged.
