A new chamber opera will be performed at the Lichfield Festival.
Beyond the Garden features music from award-winning composer Stephen McNeff and libretto by Irish poet Aoife Mannix.
The work is inspired by the relationship between Alma Mahler – muse to artists such as Klimt, and wife of Gustav Mahler – and her daughter Manon.
A Lichfield Festival spokesperson said:
“Set in 1960s New York, McNeff’s opera explores memory and reminiscence through the eyes of a woman looking back on her life, superbly realised by Susan Bickley, one of the world’s leading mezzo sopranos, who appears regularly on major opera stages worldwide.
“A seductive blend of reality and illusion, Beyond the Garden invites us to ask about what is true and what is ghostly fantasy.”

Tickets for the performance at The Hub at St Mary’s on 14th July are £18 and can be booked online.
