A NEW leader of the Labour group at Lichfield District Council has been announced.
Cllr Russ Bragger, Stowe ward representative, will take on the post next month.
It comes after Cllr Sue Woodward confirmed she would step down as leader at May’s annual council meeting.
She had been at the helm since the elections in 2023.
Cllr Bragger said:
“I am certainly looking forward to the challenges ahead and relish the opportunity to present fresh ideas and hold the current administration to account.
“Following our 2023 manifesto commitments, we have made significant changes to the way the council operates, from its investment in social housing to actions to address violence against women and girls.
“I want to show that Labour values really can make a difference and that politicians aren’t all the same.”
Cllr Colin Ball, chair of the Labour group, said:
“I congratulate Russ on his election and know he will prove to be a very capable and forthright opposition leader.
“Sue will be a hard act to follow, but we are all looking forward to this new chapter.
“It has been a privilege to serve as Sue’s deputy for the past few years. Her energy and shrewd political judgement never ceases to amaze me.
“I want to put on record our thanks from the whole Labour group for her leadership, as we all look forward to supporting Russ in his new challenging role.”
