A NEW Government scheme is helping local people facing financial hardship.
The Crisis and Resilience Fund will provide short-term support for those struggling, with Staffordshire County Council allocated £8million for the period from April this year to March 2029.
Eligible households can get help towards the costs of energy, heating oil, food, household essential items, white goods, emergency childcare or transport and uniform or clothing.
Cllr Nick Lakin, cabinet member for children and young people at Staffordshire County Council, said:
"The Crisis and Resilience Fund is a national scheme being rolled out to provide short-term help to eligible Staffordshire people facing an immediate financial crisis.
"This very much focuses on supporting payments for urgent essentials such as food or fuel bills while people get back on their feet, rather than ongoing financial help.
"With fuel prices soaring in recent months, help is available to those generally on low incomes who are struggling with the cost of energy bills.
"The Crisis and Resilience Fund will also allow us to provide more targeted, joined‑up local support to those who need it most, while also helping people build longer‑term financial stability."
Families can be referred for crisis payments through approved organisations. For more details visit the fund’s webpage.
The Crisis and Resilience Fund will be discussed at the next meeting of the county council’s Cabinet on 17th June.
