Chasetown FC’s highest crowd of the season – 355 – saw Stafford Rangers win the Staffordshire derby.
After an even first half, played in heavy rain, the hosts created some good opportunities that belied their current league position.
First, Jermaine Johnson got a header on target from a corner then a whipped cross from Danny Edwards into the penalty area was met by Nathan Waite who struck the ball with the outstep of his boot and a whisker wide of the post.
However, it was the visitors who started the second half more brightly and took the lead 7 minutes into the second half when Daniel Cope fired beyone Chase keeper John Bateman.
Ten minutes later, Rangers doubled their advantage as Ryan Edmunds drove across keeper Bateman from a tight angle.
The introduction of Chase substitute Simon Brown gave the home side fresh impetus and with his first touch of the ball he forced Adam Whitehouse to dive low to his left to concede a corner.
Rain turned to sleet and sleet into snow for the final twenty minutes and, at times, viewing was difficult for supporters and the lines were becoming covered in snow and hard to decipher.
The intervention of the weather ended the game as a spectacle and conditions were such that the game may not have started if those had been the conditions at kick off.
