A LOCAL opticians has supported a community group by sharing expert advice on a sight condition.
Team members from the Specsavers store in Lichfield attended the Macular Degeneration Club, which is run in association with the Macular Society, at Beacon Park Village.
As well as talking about the condition, the staff also answered questions from the audience.
The session was hosted by local volunteer John May MBE, who also runs the Talking Newspaper service for visually impaired people.
Store manager Sharon Bratt said:
“We were delighted to attend and share our knowledge with the group.
“Macular degeneration can have a significant impact on people’s lives, so raising awareness of the signs and symptoms and highlighting the importance of early detection is vital.
“It was fantastic to see so many people engaging with the session, and we’re proud to support initiatives that make a real difference locally. It was a real pleasure to witness John’s charitable work.”
The Macular Degeneration Club meets on the first Friday of every month at Beacon Park Village on Lower Sandford Street. Sessions are open to anyone in the local community who has been diagnosed with the condition or who is affected by it.
