Organisers are breathing a sigh of relief after the cost of cancelling a popular festival was revealed to be lower than expected.
Wet weather led to the axe falling on the Burntwood Wakes and there had been fears about the financial implications of the decision.
However, Burntwood Town Council has had initial discussions with its insurers and the early signs are that the majority of the costs and lost revenue will be met.
Councillor Diane Evans, leader of the council, said: “It was regrettable that the festival had to be cancelled this year due to the persistent rain making the venue unusable and this proves the necessity of taking out an insurance policy to avoid cancellation costs having to be met from the public purse.”
The final cancellation costs are set to be released in August.
