Burntwood Rugby Club celebrates 40 years of existence

With two thirds of its 40th Anniversary season completed, Burntwood RUFC has made arrangements to end the celebrations in style with a series of events to honour the occasion.

They begin with Ladies Evening on March 2 when mothers, wives, girlfriends and all women connected with the club can don their gladrags and have sole use of the main clubroom. The evening includes a two course meal, complimentary drink, waiter service, live entertainment, disco and a free taxi home. Tickets cost £20 and are available from the clubhouse.

It is the men’s turn on the last match of the season when the clubhouse stages a Gentlemen’s Evening on April 20 beginning at 7pm. Jukes Entertainment provide the attractions with tickets on sale shortly.

A week later the club has a weekend tour to South Wales with a match against Abercarn, the opponents on Burntwood’s first ever tour, followed by an overnight stop in Cardiff.

On the following weekend the county rugby union community will honour the club’s development when Mike Procter stages his President’s Day at The Sportsway on May 5. This will be the first time that the event has been hosted at Burntwood and it will include three cup finals, the presentation of merit table awards and the President’s Reception.

The club holds its own club President’s Day on May 18 with a series of rugby matches and a variety of off field attractions.

To round off the celebrations, plans are being made to hold a rugby/beer festival in August – date to be confirmed.
