FIRE chiefs say they are asking people to “urgently” check their tumble dryers after a safety notice was issued.

The integrated heat pump models manufactured by Haier have been flagged, affecting brands such as:

  • Baumatic
  • Candy
  • Caple
  • Haier
  • Hoover
  • Iberna
  • Lamona
  • Montpellier

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

“We’re urgently asking people to check their tumble dryers following recent safety notices.

“If you have an integrated heat pump tumble dryer manufactured by Haier, we’re urging you to stop using the appliance immediately following concerns over fire risks with the internal short circuit.

“If you have one, stop using it and unplug it from the socket. Check the model and serial number online and contact the manufacturer to arrange a repair.

“Haier has resumed its corrective action programme after updating the modification. Repairs are now being arranged for the remaining 85,000 affected machines.”

More details on the models covered by the safety notice can be found online.
