Burntwood residents are hoping to honour the fallen with a new memorial stone in time for the next Remembrance Day service.
A plaque listing those who died in the First World War currently occupies a space at the Burntwood Memorial Community Association Hall.
But there are now plans to erect a new memorial listing the names of those who have lost their lives in subsequent conflicts in the grounds.
“At present there is a plaque in the entrance which only lists those who have fallen in the First World War,” a spokesperson explained. “This causes some embarrassment on Remembrance Sunday and does not do justice to those who have fallen in the service of their country since 1918.
“This [new memorial stone] will be a special event for Burntwood and it is hoped that it can be celebrated with the relatives of those whose names will be included.
“Some of the funding is in place but we are still looking for donations.”

“We are anxious to trace any living relatives of these men,” the spokesperson added. “It is hoped that a tribute will put up within the Hall, consisting of photographs and we are hoping that relatives will be able to supply copies.”
