Plans for a revamped Burntwood Wakes have been unveiled.
Burntwood Town Council has revealed a programme of events for the event to celebrate the area during June and July.
The revamp will kick off on June 13 with the unveiling of a new plaque on the SCAMP statue at Sankey’s Corner, along with entertainment from a brass band.
Among the other events confirmed is a talent showcase at Chasetown FC’s Scholars Ground Home.
Local primary schools and organisations will be involved in the Burntwood’s Got Talent battle at 2pm on July 4.
The same venue will host a tug-o-war contest and family fun day on July 10 and 11.
The entire town will be the stage for a scarecrow competition before being gathered together at the Memorial Institute on July 25, while Burntwood In Bloom will also return as the town bids to win gold in the Heart of England in Bloom competition.
A spokesperson for Burntwood Town Council said: “This year, the Gardener’s Guild will be part of Burntwood Wakes with their show on August 15.”
Families, businesses and community groups are also being invited to enter teams in a push cart derby at Sankey’s Corner on August 8.
Meanwhile, artist Peter Walker will be show off his new artwork.
A spokesperson added: “His work is for a film that has been made possible by local people sharing their memories of Wakes of the past.
“This is the perfect way to celebrate 150 years since the first Wakes.”
